Visitors should be aware of coyotes at Eramosa Karst

A coyote showing signs of protecting its territory has been reported in the Eramosa Karst Conservation Area, specifically in the northern area of the conservation area, near the intersections of the Orange and Blue Trails, alongside the Nexus Cave area.

Conservation Area staff will be monitoring the area. Signs have been posted in the Conservation area advising visitors of the reported coyote behaviour and dog walkers are asked to avoid the area.

Dogs may be seen as a threat by coyotes to their home territory.

DOGS MUST BE LEASHED AT ALL TIMES IN CONSERVATION AREAS.

Walkers are also asked to avoid the area for the time being until more is known.

Gord Costie, Director of Customer Services for the HCA said “The HCA is asking hikers and especially dog walkers to avoid the area for now and let wildlife feel safe in their home. At times the wildlife in our conservation areas needs space from people and their pets.”
